Finding the refund information in MyTax

After you have received the tax decision, the amount and date of your tax refund will appear on your MyTax home page.

  1. You can see the amount and the date under Income tax decision on the home page. The information will keep showing there until the date when the Tax Administration sends you the refund.

If your assessment is still in process, the amount and date will not be known as yet. In this case, MyTax will show Your return is being processed. The end of October is final point in time for your refund amount and the dates when you receive it to be cleared up.

  2. If the date when you were supposed to receive your refund has passed, you can click on Payments and refunds made to check whether the Tax Administration sent it to you or not.

You will also see whether the refund money was applied as a coverage for any tax owed.

Is it possible that my refund amount or date will change?

If you edit the pre-completed return or if your spouse does the same, the size of your refund will probably change and so will the date of the refund. We will send out new, revised tax decisions by late October if not earlier. The new decision will contain information about the tax refund, its amount, and the date when you will receive it.

Another situation where the size of your refund will change is when you have other overdue taxes or debts undergoing enforcement proceedings. For more information and detailed instructions, see Why have I not received my tax refund?.

The reason for a very low refund amount going to a taxpayer is often a paid-in amount that was recorded a long time ago, or a previously computed refund of a tax where the amount was too low to be refunded the year when it was relevant. The Tax Administration pays out low amounts to taxpayers who are receiving a refund this year.

The Tax Administration will send you the year’s normal refund on the scheduled date of payment. You can see the date and amount of your refund in MyTax and on the tax decision.

This means that the low amount of money you received is not an error, and it does not require any action on your part.

Scheduled refund dates during 2025

The Tax Administration will send the refunds into individual taxpayers’ bank accounts some time during the ongoing banking day, on the dates indicated. If you look up your bank balance early in the morning but you cannot see any refund, please make another check later during the day. If it is evening and you have received no refund at all, you can log in to MyTax to see whether changes were made to the date or the amount.

There is no single refund date for all taxpayers in Finland. Instead, the Tax Administration sends out refunds to individual taxpayers on individualised refund dates, which may fall in any calendar month from July to December.

The date when the Tax Administration will complete the year’s tax assessment is different for every taxpayer, and this has an impact on the date when you can receive your refund. The end date of assessment is the day when the Tax Administration’s taxation process is completed, in other words, the corrections, additions, and other changes to your tax return will all be handled.

The Tax Administration is legally unable to match your spouse’s back tax with an amount that will soon be refunded to you.

However, if you want to pay another person’s back tax, you need to enter the bank reference number belonging to that person – your spouse – in the payment information when you send the payment in your e-bank. This way, the entries in the Tax Administration’s records will be right.

You will receive interest in addition to your refund

We pay interest with the start date 1 February 2025 to give credit for the waiting time for every tax refund, up to the actual date when you receive it. This credit interest is not included in the sum of the refund on your tax decision. Instead, we will add it to your refund on the actual date when you receive it. In 2025, the rate for credit interest is 2.5%.
