Tax card for a minor

You will need a tax card if you have a summer job or if you are a trainee and receive wages. Even minors need a tax card if they receive wages.

Ask your supervisor how to provide your tax card information. Some employers and payors receive tax card details directly from the Tax Administration, whereas others expect you to present your tax card to them yourself.

Everyone over 15 automatically receives a tax card from the Finnish Tax Administration at the beginning of the year. In addition, persons younger that that also receive a card if our records show that they have been paid wages previously. A young person's tax card has an income ceiling of €10,000 for the year. If your income exceeds the income ceiling, request a new tax card.

To request a tax card, you must have Finnish online banking codes.

If you are under 16 and have not received any mail (tax cards or tax returns) from the Tax Administration yet, do this:

  1. Log in to your own MyTax and select the Tax matters
  2. Under Applications, select Tax card and prepayments for person under 16.
  3. Read the instructions and go to Send request.
  4. Click Submit.
  5. The service tells you that you can now start making a tax card request. Click OK. The service takes you back to the MyTax home page.
  6. In the Individual income tax section, go to Tax card and click the Tax cards and prepayments
  7. Select Request a new tax card to start making a tax card request. If you need help, please refer to How to request a tax card for wage or benefit income in MyTax

A guardian can request a tax card for a child under 18 in MyTax.

Instructions:

  • Log in to MyTax to select what tax matters you wish to manage.
  • Select Act on behalf of someone else.
  • Go to e-Authorizations. Select the person whose tax matters you wish to manage.
  • If the minor was sent a tax card at the turn of the year, you can find it as follows: Go to the Communication Under Decisions and letters, click Open decisions and letters. Instructions: How to find your current tax card in MyTax
