Moving to Finland – customs and duties on alcohol and tobacco
Whether or not you have to pay excise duties on alcohol or tobacco products that you take with you while moving to Finland depends on if you are coming from another EU country or from outside the EU.
Moving to Finland from outside the EU
The Finnish Customs is responsible for your customs process and duties, if you are moving to Finland from
- outside the EU customs and taxation area
- within the EU customs area but outside the taxation area
Moving to Finland from another EU country
When you move to Finland, you can only bring alcohol or tobacco products along with your other belongings duty-free if the products are for personal use and you are bringing them in the same vehicle that you arrive in yourself. If you transport the alcohol (such as wine cellars) or tobacco in other ways, you must pay excise duties on the products.
You do not need to clear your belongings through customs when moving to Finland from another EU country.
