Instructions for completing the form
These instructions follow the order of the fields in MyTax.
Report income and expenses without including VAT. However, if you are not liable to pay VAT, enter the expenses with VAT.
By when does the tax return have to be submitted?
The deadline for the business tax return is 1 April 2026.
You should also check your personal pre-completed tax return and add any missing information or make corrections if necessary. The due date for the personal return is 1 April 2026 as well. If you have a spouse, this due date will concern both you and your spouse. You can check due dates for tax returns in MyTax and on the return’s first page.
You may ask for an extension of time for filing the tax return if you have a valid reason for it, for example if you get ill. Log in to MyTax to complete the application for extension of time.
Do you live outside Finland and operate a trade or business?
“No activities” return
You must file the Business tax return (Form 5) for every year – even if you have not had any business activities.
In MyTax there is both in the Income stage and in the Expenses and reserves stage a box which you can tick if you had no business activities. The box is right at the top of the page. Tick the box: I am not filing details in the Income stage and I am not filing details in the Expenses and reserves stage.
If your business tax return is late
If you send it after the date when it is due, you will have to pay a late-filing penalty fee.
If you do not submit your return at all or if you submit an incomplete return, you may have to pay a punitive tax increase.
Read more about the basis and amount of the late-filing penalty and punitive tax increase.
How to continue with an unfinished return, how to make corrections to a return already submitted
If you have filed your tax return on paper or through some other electronic service than MyTax, the details you have given will be displayed in MyTax later. If you can see a notice of a missing tax return in MyTax, but you have sent the return on paper or through another e-service, you can disregard the notice. When your tax return has arrived, MyTax will no longer show the notice.
How to make corrections in MyTax
In MyTax, you can use the previous return as a template for a new return, so you do not need to enter all details again.
Start by finding the tax return you have filed:
- Go to the Individual income tax section, select Tax year 2025 and click the link Open business tax return – business operator or self-employed person (5).
- You can see the information you have filed previously. Click Correct. Go through the stages of the tax return and enter new or changed details.
- Finally, go to Preview and send. Scroll down the page and click Submit.

The available methods to submit the return
If, instead of completing the tax return yourself, you want to give an authorisation to an accounting firm (or other agent or representative) for dealing with your taxes, you can do so on the suomi.fi/e-authorizations website. The accounting firm or representative using MyTax on your behalf would need to have the authorisation “Managing tax matters”.
Read more about the scope of the authorisations and their use in different e-services
Besides MyTax, you can send your business tax return:
- The Ilmoitin.fi website – upload a file generated by your accounting software
- via the company’s accounting software, provided that it has an interface with the Tax Administration.
The form (5) is available for printing on the Forms page
You can also get the form and the return envelope by calling our telephone service at 029 497 030 (standard call rates). If you order the forms by phone, make sure to allow enough time for postal delivery. The paper forms must arrive at the Tax Administration on the deadline date at the latest.
Instructions:
If you file the tax return and its enclosures on paper:
