What to do if you get someone else’s mail

The Tax Administration’s mail is delivered by the Finnish postal service Posti and delivery company JYS. It is important to know which party delivered the mail before you notify them of the error in delivery.

If your letter has been delivered by Posti, you can see a barcode in the envelope window. If your letter has been delivered by JYS, you can see a QR code in the window (see image).

Letter delivered by Posti

If Posti delivers you a letter that is addressed to someone else, such as your apartment’s previous tenant, you can write “jaettu väärin” (delivery error) on the letter and drop it off in any Posti mailbox. The letter will then be delivered to the correct address. You can also return such mail to the tax office.

Letter delivered by JYS

Contact JYS customer service to get a return envelope. You can use the return envelope to send the letter back to JYS free of charge.

Read more about how to get the return envelope on the JYS website (available in Finnish).

You are not allowed to open a letter that is not addressed to you.

You can also return such mail to the tax office.
