MyTax allows individual taxpayers to take care of their taxes online

Tax Administration Bulletin, 11/14/2018

The Tax Administration instructs individual taxpayers to start using the MyTax e-service to take care of their tax matters. MyTax will gradually replace almost all the e-services provided by the Tax Administration. Individual taxpayers are now able to make a tax card in MyTax and file additions to their tax return details. By Thursday 15 November, all households in Finland will receive a public bulletin from the Tax Administration regarding the upcoming changes in individual taxation.

MyTax will replace the Tax Card Online and Tax Return on the Web e-services previously provided for individual taxpayers. From now on, you can use MyTax to make a tax card and supplement your tax return details. In MyTax, you can view payment information relating to tax refunds and back taxes, you can pay taxes, manage your company's taxes and submit an account number for tax refunds. Limited liability companies and other corporations have already been using MyTax for a few years.

'The goal was that MyTax would be a taxpayer-friendly service that is easy to use. MyTax is comparable to online banking services: you can manage all your tax matters in just one place. The service makes it easy for the user to keep track of all their tax matters,' says Sanna Kuuri, MyTax Service Owner.

Electronic services benefit both the taxpayer and society

The Tax Administration's goal is to encourage taxpayers to use e-services. E-services benefit the taxpayer in many ways: the service is available around the clock, there are no queues, papers are never misplaced, and no time is needed for postal service.

In addition, e-services generate savings to society. For example, going to a local tax office to get a paper tax card costs eight times as much as making a tax card online. Even though the Tax Administration recommends the use of MyTax, telephone service, tax offices and chat will still be available to anyone needing assistance.

Revised tax cards now from MyTax

If a wage earner needs a revised tax card for the current year, they can make one in MyTax. Revised tax cards for 2018 can be made in MyTax until 18 December.

In 2019, tax cards and tax returns will change and payment dates will be brought forward

The following changes will take place in 2019:

Tax cards

The Tax Administration sends the 2019 tax cards to taxpayers by post. You can revise your tax card in MyTax once you have received it or from 13 December onwards at the latest. Starting next year, your tax card has only one income limit. All your employers use the same tax card, and you can give a copy of the tax card to the employer.

Tax returns

In 2019, you can file information for your tax return in MyTax throughout the year as deductions occur.

Dates of payment

Next year, most people will receive their tax refunds starting from August. The due dates for back taxes will also be brought forward.

Suomi.fi messages

If you want to stop receiving paper mail from the Tax Administration, you should enable electronic communication with public authorities by activating Suomi.fi messages.

More information about all tax-related changes is available in the Tax Administration Bulletin that will be distributed to all households.
