The Finnish government seeks to combat excessive debt among Finnish households. The government has started a project for opening a positive credit register. The plan is to make the register available for users in 2024. The register will require input from the credit institutions and other lenders that issue loans to private individuals in the Finnish market, and from any companies that buy Finnish loan contracts.

The setup and further operation of the planned register are the responsibility of the Finnish Tax Administration’s Incomes Register unit.
