Reason for the termination of employment

Enter the reason for the termination of employment according to the codes you selected.

Select Keva codes if the employment relationship is insured in accordance with JuEL and an end date has been specified for it. The codes are maintained by Keva, and they include one reason code for termination per each pension cover. Codes for different types of pension cover are available on Keva’s website.

Select Bank of Finland codes if the employment relationship is with the Bank of Finland and an end date has been specified for it. The codes are maintained by the Bank of Finland.

In all other cases, select Incomes Register codes. The codes are maintained by the Incomes Register, and they are available to all payers. It is recommended that Incomes Register codes always be used when the reason for the termination of employment is known.

Values in accordance with the codes maintained by the Incomes Register do not transfer to JuEL insurance providers or the Bank of Finland. It is, however, recommended that these employers also submit values in accordance with the codes maintained by the Incomes Register on their reports so that other data users can use them. The reason for the termination of employment is needed, for example, when determining the income earner’s right to a benefit.

The code set maintained by the Incomes Register includes the following values:

Code value Note
1 Employee’s resignation. The employee chooses to resign. This reason is also used when the employee terminates their employment relationship. The reason for resignation or termination of an employment relationship can be anything, for example a health-related reason or some other personal reason. This reason can also be used when an employee resigns or terminates an employment relationship during probation.
2 Other. No other suitable code is found in the code set. Other reason may be, for example, the employee's death.
3 Termination grounds related to employee's person. The employee has caused the termination of the employment relationship with their own actions. Such actions include neglecting one’s work duties or working under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This reason can be used when the employer terminates the employment relationship or discharges the employee due to reasons related to the employee. This reason can also be used when the employer terminates the employment relationship or discharges the employee during probation.
4 Financial and production-related grounds. The employment relationship is terminated for financial and production-related reasons.
5 Joint agreement. The employer and employee jointly agree on the termination of the employment relationship and the related terms and conditions.
6

Retirement. The employment relationship ends when the employee retires on old-age pension. In such a case, the earnings period for each type of income should preferably also be reported. In this section, you can also report persons other than only those retiring on an old age pension, such as persons retiring on disability pension or early pension. If the reason for the termination of employment is retirement, all payers must select reason 6 (Retirement).

7 Termination of fixed-term employment. The end date has been agreed for the employment relationship in the employment contract or the letter of appointment. This reason is also used when the employment relationship has been defined to last only for the duration of a certain task, such as the completion of construction work.
