You can activate Suomi.fi Messages when logging in to the register’s e-service
5/5/2025Starting 12 May 2025, the Positive credit register will prompt users to activate Suomi.fi Messages when they log in. Activating Suomi.fi Messages is prompted to private persons who are 18 or over are have not yet done so.
– When a user activates Suomi.fi Messages, they will receive notifications through the Suomi.fi service about any ordered credit register extracts concerning them. The notifications cannot be sent by paper mail, says Marjaana Ohralahti, Primary SME of the Positive credit register.
To activate the messages, the user has to enter their email address and confirm it when logging in to the Positive credit register’s e-service. Then, when the person receives official mail, they will receive notifications to this email address or the Suomi.fi mobile application if they have downloaded it on their mobile device.
Once the user has entered and confirmed their email address, they will be transferred to the register’s e-service. If the user does not want to activate Suomi.fi Messages, they can skip the activation and go directly to the e-service.
– Still, they will be prompted to activate the messages every time they identify themselves in a public administration e-service, Ohralahti points out.
Digital messaging as the primary means of official communications in 2026
The option to activate Suomi.fi Messages when logging in to the register’s e-service is part of a project led by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency, aiming to ensure that decisions and other notifications sent by Finnish officials are primarily received digitally. The transition from paper mail to electronic official communications will introduce annual savings in tens of millions of euros.
From the beginning of 2026, official mail will chiefly be delivered digitally to everyone who uses electronic services. From then on, adults who identify themselves in public authorities’ e-services will have Suomi.fi Messages activated for them without separate consent unless the person is already using the service.
