Why does the tax return not say if I will receive a tax refund or if I will have to pay back taxes?
If the amount of your tax refund or back taxes is not stated on the tax return, you have not yet received a tax decision. A preliminary tax calculation rather than a tax decision is enclosed with your pre-completed tax return if the Tax Administration has not yet received all your or your spouse’s tax information. A preliminary tax calculation is sent to entrepreneurs and agricultural operators, for example, and to individuals with rental income or capital gains.
Check the tax return and file any corrections or missing information. You will receive a tax decision when both your and your spouse’s tax returns have been processed.
Wait for the tax decision before you pay
The preliminary tax calculation is an estimate of your tax refund or back taxes at the time when the tax return is created. Note that the estimated amount may change. Do not pay back taxes based on the preliminary calculation.
