How to file expenses for the production of income in MyTax

  1. Select Tax returns and tax information under Activities.

  2. Select the year 2019.

  3. Select Pre-completed tax return.

  4. Select Correct.

  5. On the first page, you will see your own details. Go to the section Pre-completed income and deductions.

  6. Check that your pre-completed income and deductions are correct. If you have filed expenses for the production of income for your tax card or tax return previously, you can see them here. In this stage, you can correct details or file new expenses for the production of income.

    If you have no expenses for the production of income in the section Pre-completed income and deductions, proceed to Other deductions.

  7. Select Yes for Expenses for the production of income. Then click Open specification.

    a) Enter the following as expenses for the production of wage income:

    • training expenses (such as course fees and costs for course materials)
    • work tools (such as material costs and expenses for use of your own tools)
    • increased living expenses due to business trips
    • other expenses (such as professional literature or work-related telephone costs).

    If you have used your own workspace to earn wage income, select “Yes” and choose the option that best describes your circumstances.

    b) Enter the following as expenses for the production of other income than wage income:

    • expenses for the production of other work income
    • expenses for the production of income relating to benefits and other earned income.
  8. Once everything is correct, click OK.

  9. Proceed to Preview and send.

  10. Recheck the details.

    If you want to continue later, click Save as unfinished.

    If everything is correct, click Submit.

  1. Select Tax returns and tax information under Activities.

  2. Select the year 2020. Then click on Expenses for the production of income.

  3. If you also want to request a new tax card where the expenses for the production of income have already been considered in the tax rate, select Request a new tax card. (See the instructions: Ordering a tax card in MyTax)

    If you do not want to request a new tax card, select Report deduction only.

    When you only report the deduction, the details you file will automatically show in your next request for a tax card or prepayments and in the pre-completed tax return. The credit will be taken into account in the tax rate of the next tax card or afterwards in the final tax assessment (in the amount of tax refund or back taxes).

  4. Select Open specification to enter expenses for the production of wage income or other income.

    1. Enter the following as expenses for the production of wage income:
      • training expenses (such as course fees and costs for course materials)
      • work tools (such as material costs and expenses for use of your own tools)
      • increased living expenses due to business trips
      • other expenses (such as professional literature or work-related telephone costs)

        If you have used your own workspace for acquiring wage income, select Yes and choose the option that best describes your circumstances.
    2. Enter the following as expenses for the production of other income than wage income:
      • expenses for the production of other work income
      • expenses for the production of income relating to benefits and other earned income

    After you have entered all the details, click OK.

  5. If everything is correct, click Submit.
