How to check the real estate tax return in MyTax

Check the details in the real estate tax decision. If the information is correct, you do not need to do anything. If you make corrections or add missing details, follow these instructions.

Go to MyTax and log in (opens in a new window)

  1. On the home page, go to Real estate tax return and click Check real estate tax return.

If there is no section for real estate tax on your home page, select the All tax types tab. Go to Real estate tax and click File real estate tax return.

  2. The filing process has 4 stages. You can see them in the breadcrumb trail below your name.

    Stage Details on return:

    • Read the instructions and click I have read the instructions.
    • Click Next.
  3. Stage Real estate details:

    1. If you are making corrections to an existing real estate unit, select the property identifier of the unit whose details you wish to edit.
      • You can edit the real estate unit’s ownership and possession details by clicking Edit under Ownership and possession.
      • To add a missing ground area or building, click Add ground or Add building.
    2. If you report a new real estate unit, click Add real estate unit, enter ownership and possession details and add a ground area and a building.

After you have made the necessary changes, click Next.

  1. If you add a building or an extension to a current real estate unit or rented area, select the real estate unit’s property identifier.

If an entire real estate unit or leasehold right including buildings is missing, select Add real estate unit and proceed to step 5.

  2. Select Add building.

You can also add an extension by clicking Add extension under the building’s basic details.

  3. Select whether you are adding a building or an extension to an existing building. If you are adding an extension, select the building that the extension is for. Enter the required details on the building or extension and click OK.

  4. Click OK. Proceed to step 8.

  5. If you add a building for a new rented area, select Building (no right of ownership to ground, only leasehold right). Enter the property identifier, the name of the real estate unit and the municipality where the building is located. Select Add building.

If an entire real estate unit including buildings is missing, select Real estate unit. Report the real estate unit’s basic details, ownership and possession, and add ground areas. Select Add building.

  6. Select the building type from the menu. Enter the building details. Once all the details are correct, click OK.

  7. Click OK. You can make corrections to the details before you submit the return. You can now see the same details under Basic details of the building and Details on the building part.

  8. Proceed to the next stage.

  1. Select the property identifier of the real estate unit whose ownership and possession details you wish to edit.

  2. Click Edit under Ownership and possession.

  3. Specify your ownership or possession right to the real estate unit. Also specify your portion of the real estate unit.

  4. Select the reason why your right of ownership or possession has changed. If you select Other, please specify at Additional details on change of ownership or possession.

Also enter the date when the right of ownership or possession was transferred. If you are not the only owner of the real estate unit, i.e. your portion is not 1/1, also enter details on the other owners at Additional details on change of ownership or possession.

If the right of ownership or possession has changed on account of a gift, inheritance or distribution of matrimonial assets, you can add attachments if necessary.

Once everything is correct, click OK.

  5. The date when the ownership and possession information changed is displayed on the page. Click OK.

  1. Select the property identifier of the real estate unit that the building whose ownership and possession details you wish to edit belongs to.

  2. Select Basic details of the building for the building whose ownership and possession details you wish to edit.

If you go to the Ownership and possession section, you can only change the ownership and possession details of the entire real estate unit, not the details of an individual building.

  3. Go through the building details until you see the section “Are the building’s details on ownership and possession the same as the real estate unit’s?”. If the building’s status is different from the rest of the real estate unit, select No. If the status of the building and of the real estate unit are the same, edit the real estate unit’s ownership and possession details.

Select what kind of ownership or possession right you will have to the building in the future.

    Also report the following:

    • what is your portion of the building
    • how your right of ownership or possession has changed
    • when your right of ownership or possession changed.

Once everything is correct, click OK.

  4. Click OK.

  1. Select the property identifier of the real estate unit whose details you wish to edit.

  2. The building details are divided into basic details of the building and details on the building part. First, select Basic details of the building.

At Basic details, you can change the building’s purpose of use, for example.

  3. Check that the basic details of the building are correct. Make corrections if necessary. Once everything is correct, click OK.

  4. Select Part: Detached house to view the details on the building part.

  5. In this stage, you can see the details on the building’s characteristics and level of equipment. Here you can also remove the building.

Check that the detached house’s details are correct. Make corrections if necessary. Once everything is correct, click OK.

  6. Click OK.

These instructions are for the following situations:

  • you wish to remove one or more building parts
  • you wish to remove an entire building
  • a building has been recorded for a wrong real estate unit and you wish to transfer it to another property identifier.
  1. Select the property identifier of the real estate unit from which you wish to remove a building.

  2. If the building has been recorded for a wrong real estate unit and you wish to make a correction, proceed to step 6. Otherwise, go to Buildings and select the building part that has been demolished or has to be removed for other reasons.

If the building has been demolished in the current year, you cannot delete the details until next year.

Note: If you remove an entire building comprising more than one part, you must remove each part separately. If you remove the details on all building parts, the basic details of the building are also removed. You cannot remove the basic details in any other way.

  3. Click Remove building part at the end of the page.

Note: If you yourself have added a building or a building part earlier, you cannot restore it after removal.

  4. State the reason for removal, give additional details and add attachments as requested. Finally, click OK.

  5. The building part you removed is now displayed in grey. You can still cancel the removal, if necessary, by selecting the line displayed in grey and clicking Cancel removal at the end of the page that opens.

If other building parts need to be removed, remove each part separately. If you have reported all the required information, go to Additional details and attachments.

  6. If the building belongs to you but has been recorded for a wrong real estate unit, select Basic details of the building.

  7. Select Yes at “Do you want to record the building for another real estate unit?” Enter the property identifier of the real estate unit that the building really belongs to. Then select OK.

  8. After you have entered the required details, click OK.

    Note:

    • The building or building part will be removed from the real estate information only after we have processed the changes and you have received a new real estate tax decision. If you have added a building or a building part earlier, it will be removed from the real estate information immediately after removal.
    • If you changed the basic details of the building, there is a pencil icon on the right-hand side of the line.
    • If you changed the details on the building part, the text on the line is grey and there is a pencil icon on the right-hand side of the line.
  • Stage Additional details and attachments:

    • Further information: Select Yes if you want to give further information.
    • Attachments: You can add attachments to the return.
    • Contact details for more information: If your contact details are found in the Tax Administration records, they are displayed here. If it is someone else who provides further information about the return, enter their contact details.
  • Stage Preview and send:

Check that the information is correct. In the section Changed real estate details, you can see the real estate units whose details you have changed. Finally, click Submit.
