Activating Suomi.fi Messages during sign-in

5/6/2025

As of 12 May 2025, users who sing in to authorities’ e-services with strong identification will be prompted to activate Suomi.fi Messages.

The prompt is displayed when the user signs in to an e-service with Suomi.fi e-Identification and is not yet using Suomi.fi Messages.

The Messages can be activated during the sing-in process. The user can skip the Suomi.fi Messages activation and continue signing in as usual.

Activating Suomi.fi Messages applies to individuals

The e-service of the Incomes Register is included in a reform of public authorities’ e-services.

– I should note that the activation of Suomi.fi Messages only applies to using services as a private individual. If a person is acting on behalf of a company, they cannot activate messages on the company’s behalf, says Pirkko Vuori, Product Owner of the Incomes Register.

How does the activation prompt change signing in?

In spring 2025, Suomi.fi Messages will not be activated automatically for anyone, and users can decide whether or not to activate the service.

  • You will see the activation prompt if you are an adult and you are not using Suomi.fi Messages yet.
  • You will pe prompted to activate Suomi.fi Messages whenever you use Suomi.fi e-Identification for strong identification in an authority’s e-service.
  • The activation requires you to enter an email address and to verify it within an hour. You will receive an email notification when you have received new mail in Suomi.fi Messages.
  • If you want, you can skip the Suomi.fi Messages activation and continue signing in as usual. You can also activate Suomi.fi Messages later.
