Starting up business? Submit the start-up notification.

Once you have submitted the start-up notification, we will enter your company’s details in our customer register and send you instructions on how to report and pay taxes.

This is how to submit the start-up notification

  1. Submit the start-up notification in the business information system (YTJ).
  2. If you submit the start-up notification electronically, remember to register with the Tax Administration’s registers separately by filing a notification of change (YTJ).

When will I receive my business ID?

When you submit the start-up notification electronically, you will receive the business ID immediately. If you submit the start-up notification on a paper form, you will see the business ID within three days on the Company Search pages of the Finnish Patent and Register Office’s YTJ business information system.

When can I start business operations?

If your business is not subject to licence, you may start business operations immediately after submitting the start-up notification.

Once you have submitted the start-up notification and received your company’s business ID, you may

  • open a separate bank account for business purposes
  • arrange accounting issues
  • take out the necessary insurance and see to other practical matters. Contact your insurance company for further information about statutory pension insurance (YEL) for the self-employed.

If you register for VAT or seek registration for VAT voluntarily, you may invoice only after your business is entered in the VAT Register.
