Users of MyTax will soon be able to activate Suomi.fi Messages when signing in

News, 5/5/2025

On 12 May 2025, the login view of MyTax will remind users about the option to activate Suomi.fi Messages. The suggestion will stay on the login view of users aged 18 or older who have not activated the messages yet.

- When Suomi.fi Messages is enabled, your personal tax mail – and mail from several public authorities other than the Tax Administration – will be delivered to you in electronic format, explains Joonas Jarva the product owner of MyTax.
- To give your consent to the activation, you need to type and confirm your preferred e‑mail address for receiving the letters and other correspondence electronically. After that, you will always be notified when the Suomi.fi service receives any messages from public authorities addressed to you, with notification messages coming to the e-mail address you confirmed, or to the Suomi.fi app in your smartphone/other mobile device.

After you have logged in to MyTax and reacted to the Suomi.fi suggestion, you can continue using MyTax. If you decided to enable Suomi.fi, you will be informed of message activation in MyTax in 1 or 2 days. If you decided not to activate the electronic messaging, you can answer no to the Suomi.fi option and then go to MyTax in the usual way.
- However, all e-services of Finnish public authorities will have the same reminder message showing at login, says Joonas Jarva.

The Digital Priority project will gather momentum in 2026

The very easy activation option for Suomi.fi messaging at MyTax login is part of a project managed and co-ordinated by the DVV — Finnish Digital Agency, which promotes electronic messaging and the objective of having citizens and others living in Finland receive official communications primarily electronically, not by paper mail. Successful transition to digital messages will probably bring about annual savings in tens of millions of euros.

From January 2026, an electronic Suomi.fi Messages mailbox will be created automatically for all existing users of the government’s e-services. Starting 2026, everyone whose age is 18 or older will have Suomi.fi enabled at login – in an automatic process where no user consent will be requested before activation. This will apply to those who are not yet using Suomi.fi Messages.
