Public broadcasting tax

TV licenses have been replaced by Public Broadcasting Tax since 2013.

Individual taxpayers

The rate of public broadcasting tax is 0.68% of the sum of an individual's earned income and capital income, however, the maximum amount to pay is €143 a year (in 2016 and 2017). Individuals do not have to pay it if it stays below €70. The Public Broadcasting Tax is a personal type of tax, included in the withholding rate (prepayment rate) printed on the tax card.

The tax is not collected if:

  • the sum total of your 2017 earned and capital income is less than €10,294 a year (for pensioners and recipients of social benefits) or less than €11,044 a year (for wage earners), so the amount would stay below €70.00.
  • you are under 18 years of age
  • your domicile is Åland Islands.
