No action required of most taxpayers when 2012 tax cards show Tax Numbers

Tax Administration Bulletin, 12/16/2011

The deliveries of the tax cards for 2012 have started.  They include information on each individual taxpayer's Tax Number, the TN.  However, construction workers are the only individual taxpayers who will need TNs, so no action is required of others.

All individuals who work on construction, building or installation sites must hand over their tax cards to their employers.  The 2012 tax cards include information on each individual Tax Number, the TN. When working on sites, construction workers will be required to carry badges with their photographs and TNs showing on them.

"There is a transition period. An amendment of the Finnish work-safety legislation will require workers to carry badges with their photographs and TNs, and this amendment should come into force in September 2012. The construction sites that have started before the amendment comes into force will have a six-month transition period, allowing these sites to not require the workers to carry badges until 1 March 2013” says Sari Wulff, senior adviser of the Tax Administration.

Any sites where work begins after the amendment has come into force will immediately have to require the workers to carry badges with their photographs and TNs showing on them.
